Dr. Craig Dunn Discusses Relationship Between Joseph Smith's Martyrdom and His Bid for Presidency

Dr Craig Dunn was the guest speaker for our January meeting.  His topic, “The Martyrdom Of the Prophet Joseph Smith.”  He presented information from non-LDS sources which added additional insight into the events leading up to the martyrdom.  From these additional sources it was shown that Joseph’s bid for the Presidency of the United States was so strong that individuals from outside of the state of Illinois were sent in to participate in the assault on Joseph.  From the information Dr Dunn presented it seems that political assassination as well as religious persecution contributed to the murder of Joseph Smith at Carthage, Illinois in June of 1844.  Dr Dunn’s message was highly interesting and it was a very pleasant social night out.
